On this page, you’ll find many different options for anyone
age 18 and over that wants to paddle a canoe or kayak.
6-Week Lesson Packages
This program provides an introduction to the sport of canoe and
kayak. BCKC wants to promote this unique sport, which is fun and
develops strength, endurance and balance in a natural outdoor environment.
This entry-level program is geared to introduce participants to
the sport and the equipment. BCKC provides the participants with
highly stable boats, with the opportunity to advance to more challenging
boats as they improve. Download

BCKC Lessons
We paddle rain or shine!
WHAT TO WEAR:
- Be comfortable
- Be prepared to get a little wet
- Shorts or track pants (Jeans are not recommended)
- T-shirt/ long sleeve or long underwear if the weather is cool
- Windbreaker or light breathable raincoat
- Shoes are not allowed in the boats; therefore bring sandals
or water shoes (or bare feet)
- A hat and/or sunglasses is strongly recommended
WHAT TO BRING:
- A water bottle
- A towel for after the lesson
- A change of clothes (just in case you get more than a little
wet!)
- PFDs are provided but you are welcome to bring your own
- A smile

Adult Sprint Program
This program is for both experienced paddlers, paddlers with experience
in disciplines other than flatwater (e.g. sea kayaking, white water,
dragon boating, etc) and people who have never been in a boat and
are interested in a healthy activity, which helps to improve and
maintain fitness. Participants can learn to handle a boat competently
so they can enjoy seeing beautiful BC from a boat, or will have
opportunity to compete in regattas, including the Canadian Masters
Championship (CANMAS). Individuals will develop personal fitness,
including endurance, strength and balance. Participants involved
in this program will have opportunity to learn the range of skills
for the sport, from the basics of paddling to the specific technical
skills required for competitive racing. BCKC provides all equipment,
including stable boats for beginners, and more challenging boats
for the more advanced paddler. All participants will also have the
opportunity to practice in crew boats, such as doubles and fours.
Participants are encouraged to participate in both the small boats
and war canoe sessions.

Masters War Canoe Program
War Canoe is a uniquely Canadian boat, which holds 15 paddlers
and has great history within this country. The War Canoe Program
is designed to teach the skills of War Canoe while increasing fitness
and developing a positive team environment. The BCKC Masters War
Canoe Team will be racing against other clubs from across Canada
at CANMAS in Regina on August 27, 2006. While people ages 18-24
can participate in the program over the summer, those going to CANMAS
must be 25 years old as of August 27, 2006 to qualify as a Master
for the CANMAS regatta.

Drop In Program
Dropping-in is the best way to give the sport of sprint canoe/kayak
a try. Every Thursday at 6-8pm from May-September, the general public
is welcome to come to down to BCKC and get in a boat. BCKC provides
all equipment. Participants will be given very basic instruction
on the sport, the proper way to get in and out of a boat, and care
of the equipment. A nationally certified instructor will be at all
Drop-in sessions and will have knowledge on all of the other programs
we offer.
A $10 fee is required for the first Drop In session, which covers
an insurance fee, and a waiver must be completed before trying a
boat (minors, under 18, must have their parent/guardian in attendance
to fill out their waiver). Repeated visits to the Drop-in will be
$5 per session.
