School Dragon Boat Program

Dear Teachers and Young Athletes,

Regrettably, Burnaby Canoe and Kayak Club will be unable to hold the School Dragon Boat Program in the spring of 2010 due to the dredging of Burnaby Lake. Access to the lake is not guaranteed for the spring and we decided to postpone the program till 2011. By no means do we want to stop this program completely but in the interest of safety for all participants as well as work crews on the lake we feel the decision to postpone it is the right one. This also means that there will be no BC School Dragon Boat Regatta on Burnaby Lake this year.

Please check back in the fall 2010 for information on our improved program to be offered in the spring of 2011. The program is designed to introduce students in grades 6 - 12 to the team sport of Dragon Boat in a fun and safe environment. We are committed to keep this program affordable and fun and are hoping to increase participation. We will have a much improved race course which allows us to accept more teams for the BC School Dragon Boat Regatta. You’ll be training and racing on a World Class facility, the best in all of Canada.

Thanks to all the schools who participated in the 2009 program! The winners were:

  • Primary Division: Sperling Elementary

  • Secondary Division: Eric Hamber Eternal Dragon

We hope to see all the same schools from this year as well as some new schools participate in the 2011 program.
