About Burnaby Canoe & Kayak Club (BCKC)

Take the biggest lake in the center of the Lower Mainland. Add sweeping views of the North Shore Mountains, a bird watching area right next door and a 10 kilometer walking/run trail around the lake. Finish it off with a pinch of beavers and a touch of herons and eagles. This is the setting against which we offer paddling programs for all ages and all levels.

The Burnaby Canoe and Kayak Club is located at the west end of Burnaby Lake and offers programs for people age 8 and older:

BCKC is a non-profit organization that services our community with flatwater canoe and kayak opportunities, in a safe and positive environment lead by nationally certified coaches. We are supported by a committed group of members who volunteer their time and energy to share our passion for paddling. BCKC is a member of the provincial sport organization Canoe Kayak BC and the national sport organization Canoe Kayak Canada.

Those of you who witnessed Canadian Adam van Koeverden win the gold medal in the 500m K1 race in the 2004 Athens Olympics will have observed that the top athletes make the sport look easy. In this sport the fastest boats are most often also the least stable. Since the objective in racing is to move from start to finish quicker than your fellow competitors, athletes work to develop their skills to master the tippiest of boats. BCKC has stable boats for new paddlers, high performance boats for the advanced athletes and a range of boats in between that allow paddlers to continue to challenge themselves as their skills develop.

If you want to find out more about how you can participate, please email us or call 604.267.2256.

The job descriptions for the volunteer positions within the club are now up. Your chance to rise to the occasion and help out to make BCKC an even better club!
