Have you ever wanted to try paddling but weren't sure where to start? The Burnaby Canoe & Kayak Club's Intro to Sprint Program is making it easier than ever for youth and adults to get out on the water and experience one of Canada's most exciting sports.
Set against the beautiful backdrop of Burnaby Lake, the Intro to Sprint Program is designed specifically for beginners. No experience is required—just a willingness to try something new, learn new skills, and have fun.
Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of sprint canoe and kayak by nationally certified coaches in a safe, supportive, and team-oriented environment. Throughout the four-session program, paddlers will learn basic stroke techniques, boat control, balance, and water safety while experiencing a variety of canoes and kayaks used in the sport.
More than just learning how to paddle, participants will discover the excitement of gliding across the water, building confidence, developing coordination, and becoming part of a welcoming paddling community. Many athletes who start in Intro to Sprint continue into the club's youth competitive, recreational, or adult sprint programs, making it the perfect first step into a lifelong sport.
Whether you're looking for a new challenge, an active outdoor experience, or simply a fun way to spend time on the water, the Intro to Sprint Program offers an unforgettable introduction to canoe and kayak racing.
With programs available for both youth and adults from May through September, there has never been a better time to give paddling a try. The water is waiting.
